Review of "The Art of Personal Evangelism"

This book addresses the major foundational principles and issues concerning personal evangelism. Postmodern culture differs on the approach of evangelism while the foundational principles are rooted in scripture. Another good book on the subject is
"Introduction to Evangelism" by Dr. Alvin Reid. Will McRaney Jr. is the author of "The Art of Personal Evangelism". He writes that people no longer believe in absolute truth as determined by others. Lost people are more negative toward church
than in the past. Christians have an identity and image problem. (Christianity means everything and nothing). People see themselves as spiritual and therefore not in need of the church. People's approaches to life have changed and our methods have not. The church has little to no perceived value in the lives of many lost people. A warning from the Book of Judges admonishes: "After that whole generation had gathered to their fathers, another generation grew up, who knew neither the Lord
nor what he had done for Israel." Judg. 2:10 Of the three major categories of evangelism-attraction, projection, and media-projection strategies will have to plan an increasing role. Developing born-again christians into disciples is the goal.
A disciple:
has a personal relationship with the teacher.
is under the total authority of the teacher.
possesses and demonstrates the character of the teacher.

Past methods of evangelism have been efficient but not effective. ** Effective evangelism consists of knowing how to treat potential christians with dignity.
The author's desire is for the reader's life skills, work habits, family structures, interpersonal relationships, and every other facet of life to be affected by Jesus. The new christians will have abundant life (John 10:10) and bear much fruit (John 15:8). This book spurs readers to care that Jesus is an inclusive God who demands exclusive allegiance. This book helps the reader to help the gospel to make sense for others. The ISBN no. is 978-080542624-3. The publisher is B&H Publishing Groups-www.BHPublishinggroup.com The book sells for $19.99.
